Texas Stepparent Adoption

Experienced Dallas Fort Worth Adoption Attorney

If you have remarried after a divorce and your minor children live with you and your new spouse, you may have a number of reasons why you want your new spouse to legally adopt your children. It may be necessary for the children to get health insurance or other benefits. Your spouse will also have the legal right to make decisions regarding your children’s schooling, medical care and other special needs. Your child will now be able to inherit from the stepparent. More than anything, though, your child can gain a sense of security and belonging, as part of a cohesive family unit.

At the Law Office of Len Conner, we focus our practice exclusively on family law matters, such as stepparent adoptions. We work closely with other professionals, including psychologists, social workers, financial advisors, private investigators and tax professionals, to help you get the results you seek. We have the skill and experience to offer flexibility in how we accomplish your goals — we can represent you in litigation or help you use mediation to resolve your problems.

We emphasize personal service and attention in all our dealings with clients. We will learn as much as we can about your unique situation so that we can adapt our approach to meet your needs. We have the skill, knowledge, experience and resources to identify and implement customized solutions to your legal problems.

Helping You Successfully Complete a Stepparent Adoption

We will handle all issues related to a stepparent adoption, preparing and filing all documentation to complete the process, and acting as your liaison with biological parents and the courts. We will work to obtain a voluntary relinquishment of parental rights, if possible, or take the measures necessary in the courts to obtain a termination of parental rights.

In our experience, stepparent adoptions can be simple when both parties are in communication and agreement. Frequently, the stepparent is filling a role that the noncustodial parent has neglected to fill. We will be your advocate with the noncustodial parent, helping them understand how the adoption will be in the best interests of your child. When necessary, we will also help the court understand why the adoption should take place.
