5 Steps for Hiring a Dallas Divorce Lawyer
By Jenna Ryan
This article is meant to help you--potential divorcé--to find the right attorney to represent you in your impending cause of action. I am not an attorney, nor am I a legal professional, but I've been through the arduous process of finding a Dallas Divorce Lawyer, so I can help you steer clear of a few pitfalls ahead.
Step 1 :: Remain calm.
The more emotional you get now, the less likely you are to make rational decisions. You need your wits about you to find the right lawyer and weigh your options. Take it from me, if you allow your emotions to rule you, you'll make decisions you'll regret later.
Step 2 :: Don't rush decisions.
Don't add insult to injury by rushing to hire a lawyer no matter what. Hiring the next attorney you see will not give you the relief you seek from your divorce angst. In fact, rushing into your attorney decision can make matters worse. Nothing is worse than battling with your spouse and your lawyers. No matter how urgent things seem, take your time.
Step 3 :: Trust your instincts.
Going through a divorce makes you vulnerable. It may be intimidating to visit a slick Dallas Divorce lawyer in a plush office downtown. No matter how highfalutin the attorney, don't second guess yourself. If the attorney's attitude is the least bit sarcastic or condescending to you, run--don't walk for the nearest door. You deserve better than that.
Step 4 :: Consider the Lab, not the Dobermin.
Is it really a good idea to hire an attorney who is more a trained attack dog than one who listens, cares and empathizes? Not in my book. The lawyer who is hard nose and aggressive will be that way with you too. You don't want a a softie, but don't hire a bully either. Mean people are just mean. They can turn on you, or worse, use intimidation to make you do what they want you to do in your most vulnerable time.
Step 5 :: Stop complaining and stay positive.
As hard as it is, stop the complaining and self-pity. You're going through tremendous changes in many ways, and it's during the storms of life that you grow the most. Now is the time to eat a good breakfast, repeat positive statements to yourself, pray and surround yourself with supportive people, including your legal team.
"This too shall pass."
